on wallpapers

It’s difficult to find a perfect wallpaper. So recently, I have been trying to make my own wallpapers. It’s pretty easy as opening an art program, and it’s actually pretty fun!

here is the first wallpaper I made:

a very messy wallpaper with drawings and writing everywhere

First, I added my drawings. Before I became an artist, I always loved art sketches because they looked pretty and simply magical. However, these are my own drawings, so there is no magic for me :p

Secondly, I added some practical things. I added the monthly sunrises and sunsets in my area, mainly because I want to be more conscious of outdoors. I added important school dates so I don’t forget. As a UX student, I added Nielsen’s Heuristics as reference. I thought about adding the Laws of UX too, but it wouldnt have fit. Lastly, I was reading a book on musical rhythms, and I felt like I should have some rhythms listed.

Then as I was running out of ideas, I just added whatever looks cool. I love colors so I added the Oklch wheel. After all, it was becoming apparent that my wallpaper needed color. Secondly, I added the five Chinese elements because I love the characters (if this website wasn’t apparent enough with the dates). I also added my own signature.

To end it, I gave a paper tint to make feel more analog. I like the wallpaper. It’s humble and personal.

Here is another wallpaper I made:

Youmu and Ultramarine Logo

This one is much cleaner mostly because I already had first wallpaper. I have Youmu cursor, so I felt like I needed a Youmu wallpaper as well. Also, like a real Linux user, I had to list my distro.

I’m surprised how rare handcrafting your wallpaper is. No coding skills are required, and you can really make anything personal.
