Recently, I’m trying this app called “Thumb Keyboard”. Its core idea? Instead of using your nimble fingers to tap on small keys on a regular qwerty keyboard, Thumb Keyboards use bigger multipurpose keys that can type multiple character keys through swiping. Here a photo:

By sliding your fingers across a key, you can access the keys on the edges.
The Good
-
There is no autocorrect. Obviously now you have to learn how to spell for one like a caveman but it’s more predictable instead of retyping words twice.
-
There is a lot of custom layouts. Here are some of my favorites:

This is the whale. I love how big this layout is.

I forgot the name of this layout.
- Emoji selector is much easier to navigate than the Samsung one. It’s easier to see all the options without seeing gifs to type your favorite emojis 🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️

- If you want to test yourself, there is a cool feature where you can hide all the key labels. If you forgot which key is which, enjoy checking each key one by one :3
The Bad
-
The multipurpose keys are not reliable. Sometimes when you’re trying to type a ‘y’, you get a ‘x’. Sometimes when you’re trying to type a ’m’, you get a ’n’. I have to use the compose format because I write fiction on my phone. However, this also adds a bunch of extra gestures that you have to dodge like it’s Touhou.
-
It’s a hard change. Even now when I pretty much know every key, you will still lose that fluency. Instead of typing in three characters at a time, you are struggling typing one at a time. You’ll be literally faster by using the voice feature than using the keyboard.

By the way, this voice feature works offline!
-
The double space feature is cool but annoying to use because you have to count a lot and sometimes, you end writing two periods when you meant to type a question mark.
-
I don’t know if it’s just me or this keyboard strains my fingers a lot more than a regular keyboard. I don’t know, I would have to continue using this keyboard for longer to see.
Conclusion
I’m not convinced that this keyboard is better than the regular phone keyboard. However, I’m also inexperienced with it so I will continue using it and I’ll make an update of my later thoughts.
PS: I end up stopping to be honest. But I would say the strain still appears with regular keyboards too.
